Now drooling over morning glories and things
yougrowgirl: Anyone have Japanese morning glory seeds they'd be willing to trade? #seedchat
mrbrownthumb: Did you get any offers for JMGs? I have some 'Chocolate Rose Silk' is.gd/KQVKkn & some a breeder sent me I need to grow
yougrowgirl: No, but I am trying to set up a trade with someone in Japan. I would love that variety! Do I have anything you want?
yougrowgirl: How about Hahms Gelbe Topftomate? I also have hot peppers galore http://www.yougrowgirl.com/2011/08/10/hahms-gelbe-topftomate/
mrbrownthumb: I'd be happy just to get some same seed back. I haven't grown some for fear of getting crossed w/Granpa Otts in neighbor's yard
yougrowgirl: Unfortunately, this yard came with a morning glory invasion so crossing will be impossible to prevent.
mrbrownthumb: Understood, I'll send them anyway. Better grown and blooms photographed than sitting in my seed bin.
yougrowgirl: That would be awesome. My friend Barry might be able to provide a contamination free place to grow some seed.

Tangerines
Inspired by @gardenscience’s Growing Lemons experiment, I took three big, plump seeds out of the tangerine I was eating and stuck them in containers of dirt. (It just seemed like a shame to waste them!)
The internet told me I should rinse them in bleach water first, but that seemed rather extreme to me. Instead, I thoroughly rinsed them all with clean water, and washed one with dish soap...

Mother-of-Thousands Kalanchoe
When I dropped my plants off at the greenhouse for break I noticed that someone else had left a kalanchoe of a mother-of-thousands type on the top shelf of succulents. I had a strong suspicion that some of its babies would be coming home with me when I picked up my plants a month later.
And yep, so far I’ve pulled up two :/
Hopefully if I pull them as I see them I won’t end up with a...

You know you're a succulent addict when:
You water your new cactus and you admire how well the potting medium drains.

New non-plant blog →
Hey guys! I decided that there was too much interesting stuff going on on tumblr for me to confine myself to talking about plants, so if you want to check out other stuff I’m interested in, this is a link to my new blog! Things that will be on it include but are not limited to:
plant stuff unrelated to gardening
crafting, particularly jewelry making
my pics of things that aren’t...

greenthumbjourney:
fuzzytrees answered your question: For Christmas my grandparents gave me some babies…
Looks like some sort of kalanchoe to me. Strong resemblance to K. pumila, but it’s too dark for that.
I was looking through kalanchoes earlier and thought it looked a little bit like the K. longiflora. The leaves on mine aren’t as shiny though. It could be some sort of hybrid, of course.

I had a dream about plants last night.
I suppose it was inevitable, even though I remember my dreams fairly infrequently.
In the dream, I had put the baby schefflera and a little cactus on the windowsill above my bed. They were unhappy because of the draftiness of the window, though, and the schefflera had pulled all of itself, except the leaves, down into the dirt, lithops-style.
Meanwhile, something that I thought in the dream was...

Just talked my dad into buying a zz plant.
It wasn’t hard.
It’s basically the easiest plant of the easy house plants, and doesn’t require much light. (Though I suggested to him that he put it outside in the summer.)
In other news, my baby schefflera might be dying. I’m pretty sure the stem should not be that color.
