Fittonia verschaffelti argyroneuro (White Nerve Plant) at the Huntington Museum of Art.
Apparently it’s a fairly common houseplant, but not the easiest to take care of. I’ve been looking for an explanation for the name, but none is exactly forthcoming. Maybe it has something to do with the fact that it does something described as “fainting” when it is not perfectly nurtured?

My Adenium obesum (Desert Rose)—the plant that went on the plane.
Over fall break, I stumbled upon unexpected temptation—I didn’t expect to find succulent plants at the Renaissance Festival, and yet there they were. In spite of the plane ride back to school, I decided to grab a plant.
I tucked it carefully into my carry-on to go through security, but otherwise carried in in a brown paper bag in my hand. Surprisingly, no one said a word about it.
